College Board recommends the following pre-requisites: completion of four years of secondary mathematics designed for college bound students in which they study algebra, geometry, trigonometry, analytic geometry, and analytic functions. Through the use of the unifying themes of derivatives, integrals, limits, approximation, and applications and modeling, the course becomes a cohesive whole rather than a collection of unrelated topics. Thus, although facility with manipulation and computational competence are important outcomes, they are not the core of the course. The focus of the courses is neither manipulation nor memorization of an extensive taxonomy of functions, curves, theorems, or problem types. For all you Michael Card lovers, Brian has joined forces with the Card himself and made some pretty sweet music. See here for his website (you can see the kindly face for yourself). His night job has him moonlighting with all kinds of imagination-deepening, church-strengthening, artist-loving projects. His day job involves leading worship, music and the arts at John Knox Presbyterian Church in Seattle. He's got a lush beard and a Saint Nicolas-like smile. I met him a second time at Steven Purcell's wedding this past August. I first met Brian at the Transforming Culture symposium here in Austin. Brian Moss, Prayer Book Project, Seattle, WA But, I dare say, it's much more a must read for pastors and leaders of the church.Īnd I was not paid a dime to make that statement.Ģ. And if you understand rightly God's call on your life to make culture, then, no worries, amigo, your business with art will fall nicely into place. Because prior to your calling as a maker of art is your calling as a maker of culture. If you're an artist wanting to make sense of your calling as an artist, go by yourself a copy. But I'll let you experience the yumminess of that thought for your own by letting you read the book. He also has a great commentary about omelets. Andy, with a persistent grace, forces us to pay attention to it again and again. There's also a feeling that Christians who think of our human vocation exclusively in terms of evangelism and getting folks to heaven and then, un-encumbered by material flesh, singing God's praises throughout eternity-and by singing, we mean singing literally, not figuratively, because that's mostly what gets center stage in the book of Revelation-they've simply hurried past Genesis 2:15, without really paying attention to the concrete reality of God's act, and dismissed it as un-important. Put that way, there's a sudden but also humbling "Of course!" to the obviousness of the point. "Without the task of gardening-cultivating, tending, ruling and creating using the bountiful raw material of nature-the woman and man would have had nothing to do, nothing to be." A constant refrain that drives his thesis forward is this: What does it mean for us humans to make sense of the world by making something of the world? If culture is what we make of the world, he argues, then we are making two kinds of things: meaning and stuff. It has a nice gentle, narrative tone about it that keeps me leaning forward, curious, and encouraged while also challenged. I've really enjoyed reading Andy's latest. Andy Crouch, Culture Making: Recovering Our Creative Calling, Swarthmore, PA I've found myself journaling about things that might have been left un-recorded were it not for this forced regiment: sex, golf, money, a fractured relationship, the last line that Jack Black's character speaks in the movie King Kong-the usual male interests.įor today I want to make note, in honor of Andy Crouch's fine book Culture Makers, of ten artists who are making artistic culture worth knowing about. Out of the last ten days, seven I've found myself at the wee end of the night, a total sloshy noodle, with desires only for my pillow, then: bing! The bell goes off in my head. This writing challenge is becoming a drag and a boon. I then converted my USGS/NCRS Soils shape file (containing ~25,000 polygons) to a raster using the cell size of the other raster files (slope, dem, and aspect). Eachof the rasters output shared identical extent, rows/columns and cell size which was desirable. Each raster was cut after selecting the Snap Raster option under Environment | Processing Extent. I then cut each raster using the kentucky boundary shapefile (polygon) that also was in GCS WGS_1984. I also ensured that the cell size (both X and Y) were square and the same for all the raster layers. I started with all my data (DEM, Aspect, Slope, Land Use/Land Cover) in GCS (WGS_1984) at a much larger extent than I will require output at. I decided to re-cut all my data layers in hopes that some of the issues I was experiencing would vanish. but you must have a need to use a GCS, just a warning for others in general Be careful with this since you are unfortunately working with geographic coordinates and the 8th decimal place in a GCS is sadly not the same precision as the same representation in projected coordinates. check the left bottom alignment and cell size and prune everything to the minimum of the inputs. What I think is happening is that the erroneous files are trying to be squeezed/stretched (whatever) into an extent at the same time as the lower left corner and cell size is being aligned. In this vein, it would be best to get that established first, then trim any extra rows and columns from the top and left after all rasters align to the lower left and all have the same cell size. they are independent of the general analysis extent. The important think to deal with for processing in the first instance is the bottom left hand corner and the cell size must match. A line that cuts a circle at two distinct points is called a secant. The word ‘diameter’ is use to refer both to these intervals and to their common length. Since a diameter consists of two radii joined at their endpoints, every diameter has length equal to twice the radius. A chord that passes through the centre is called a diameter. An interval joining two points on the circle is called a chord.Notice that the word ‘radius’ is being used to refer both to these intervals and to the common length of these intervals. By the definition of a circle, any two radii have the same length. Any interval joining a point on the circle to the centre is called a radius.A circle is the set of all points in the plane that are a fixed distance ( the radius) from a fixed point ( the centre).Throughout this module, all geometry is assumed to be within a fixed plane. We begin by recapitulating the definition of a circle and the terminology used for circles. Spheres and cylinders are the first approximation of the shape of planets and stars, of the trunks of trees, of an exploding fireball, and of a drop of water, and of manufactured objects such as wires, pipes, ball-bearings, balloons, pies and wheels. Circles are the first approximation to the orbits of planets and of their moons, to the movement of electrons in an atom, to the motion of a vehicle around a curve in the road, and to the shapes of cyclones and galaxies. The theoretical importance of circles is reflected in the amazing number and variety of situations in science where circles are used to model physical phenomena. Students traditionally learn a greater respect and appreciation of the methods of mathematics from their study of this imaginative geometric material. The logic becomes more involved − division into cases is often required, and results from different parts of previous geometry modules are often brought together within the one proof. They clearly need to be proven carefully, and the cleverness of the methods of proof developed in earlier modules is clearly displayed in this module. The theorems of circle geometry are not intuitively obvious to the student, in fact most people are quite surprised by the results when they first see them. Tangents are introduced in this module, and later tangents become the basis of differentiation in calculus. Lines and circles are the most elementary figures of geometry − a line is the locus of a point moving in a constant direction, and a circle is the locus of a point moving at a constant distance from some fixed point − and all our constructions are done by drawing lines with a straight edge and circles with compasses. Most geometry so far has involved triangles and quadrilaterals, which are formed by intervals on lines, and we turn now to the geometry of circles. Canada was one of the countries to intercede in the conflict. A United Nations-led coalition was formed with 16 countries providing troops. In June 1950 North Korea invaded South Korea, initiating a conflict that became the Korean War. Finally, the RCCS was aligned in nomenclature with the regular component as The Royal Canadian Corps of Signals on 22 March 1948, after the conclusion of the Second World War. Many signallers became involved in the clandestine work of Pat Bayly and Sir William Stephenson. From the outset of the Second World War and before Canada's participation in 1939 members of the RCCS were active setting up radio equipment and signalling infrastructure at Camp X near Oshawa on Lake Ontario. Meanwhile, on 1 August 1921, the militia component was re-titled Canadian Corps of Signals redesignated Royal Canadian Corps of Signals on 29 April 1936 (as part of the larger military restructuring that year). Shortly thereafter, on 15 June 1921, King George V, the Canadian monarch, bestowed on the permanent force portion of the organization the title The Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. This was redesignated The Canadian Permanent Signal Corps on 15 December 1920. On 1 April 1919 as part of the restructuring based on experiences during the Great War, a regular (Permanent Active Militia) component was established as the Canadian Signalling Instructional Staff. It was redesignated The Canadian Signal Corps on 4 June 1913. Major Wallace Bruce Matthews Carruthers established a militia ( Non-Permanent Active Militia) component of signallers under the designation Signalling Corps on 24 October 1903, making it the first independent signal corps in the British Empire. At the bottom is a ribbon with the text velox, versutus, vigilans and eight maple leaves. At the centre of the circle is the Roman god Mercury. In the Second World War era, the corps badge consisted of a circle, with a Tudor Crown on top with the text Royal Canadian Corps of Signals around the edge. There are detachments of signallers at bases around Canada and other DND facilities. Upon completion of their trade's training, signallers are posted to one of three mechanized brigade groups in Canada, or the Canadian Forces Joint Signal Regiment at CFB Kingston. Signallers receive their training at CFB Kingston, Ontario, at the Canadian Forces School of Communication and Electronics (CFSCE). It provides communication support and information systems for the Canadian Army. The Royal Canadian Corps of Signals was re-instituted in 2013. Prior to 1968 it was a combat support corps of the Canadian Army. The Royal Canadian Corps of Signals ( RCCS or RC Sigs French: Corps des transmissions royal du Canada, CTRC ) is a component within the Canadian Armed Forces' Communications and Electronics Branch, consisting of all members of that personnel branch who wear army uniform. Visions of the future in the 1960s tended towards bright, bold colors, and Star Trek didn't have CG to create detailed imaginary backdrops. But Quake 2 RTX's aesthetic, in its most dramatically lit corners, is pure Star Trek: The Original Series. The original game was James Cameron's Aliens, rendered in the finest detail that 12 megabytes of video memory could produce. When Nvidia's designers really went over-the-top with colored lighting, I realized they had changed the kind of sci-fi Quake 2 evokes. Ray tracing helps iron out some of Quake 2's more tedious moments and just generally make its spaces more interesting to explore. I got lost in the hallways more than once, and would've spent way more time wandering in vain without the lights to guide me. Unlike Quake 1's standalone levels, Quake 2 uses a hub design, where you're frequently backtracking through previous areas after completing a secondary objective. The colorful lighting isn't just for show-it quickly became the way I navigated the corridors of the Strogg base, remembering I needed to pass through a striking red room to get back to a previously locked door. Playing Quake 2 RTX absolutely gives Quake 2 a different feel, but I think it uses the technology in ways id's developers would've tried themselves if they could have back in 1997. This changes what it's like to explore the nooks and crannies of the Strogg base, giving it a bit more of the horror vibe id would later go for in Doom 3. Where there isn't an in-world light source, you have to supply your own. For example, Nvidia added a flare gun into the game to make it easier to see in the dark-a vital tool in Quake 2 RTX, because the dark is now really dark. Just look at this difference between a couple rooms:īut after a few hours, it started to seep in that this stuff wasn't just eye candy. It wields ray traced lighting like an artist who's just been miraculously cured of color blindness, drenching one corridor in purple, another in sickly green. If there's one thing id Software games absolutely never needed, it's subtly.Īnd Quake 2 RTX is not subtle. And it gets in the way of the satisfying flow from one headshot to the next. "Subtle" for the time was probably referencing the fact that some enemies will double over in pain when you shoot them, which in 1998 passed for realism but in 2021 is a little comical when it happens every single time. PC Gamer called it "the most sensational and subtle shooter ever" in a 1998 list of the 50 best games of all time, where it took third place. It was still amazing tech for 1997, of course. There are wall sconces and bits of colored lighting here and there, but they never stand out, or cast a glow throughout the room they're in. Quake 2's color palette is dominated by browns and grays, with the occasional exciting bit of glowing red lava. Quake 2 RTX's simple geometry and textures put all the focus on the lighting, and in doing so completely transform the game. The lighting and reflections may look amazing, but everything else is already so detailed it's hard for them to really stand out. I’m sure actual Paypal payees are used to the pop up style checkout but personally I hate it and never thought it felt that great the few times I’ve had to use one like that to order something. If you believe there is an error with a charge on your credit card account or an aspect of your periodic statement, explore these options to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.Ī credit card dispute is a process in which you assert that there is a billing error on your account or that a merchant did not honor their terms and conditions. I didn’t like it and disabled the feature. When I had Paypal Payments enabled the checkout process opened a pop up window to complete the Paypal checkout portion of the process rather than keeping it within the same contiguous form and page that the user is already on. I also found it a bit confusing that they’d bake in 3d secure with Paypal Payments – the optional setting for a completely different checkout flow – rather than include it in the standard WC checkout flow where the majority of our users are heading. I had Paypal Payments enabled as well but had zero customer engagement. That info is helpful and I appreciate you offering intelligent responses instead of copy+paste boiler plate. Thanks Ryan.you seem more knowledgeable and articulate than anyone I have ever encountered in any support interaction with Paypal. The Paypal checkout process is decent but not enough to make up for this completely horrible service. As good as it was on BigCommerce it is the epitome of horrible with WooCommerce. Seems like it’s a good revenue stream for braintree when they can allow fraud because they’re taking the money from your account anyway so no loss on their end. I switched to Stripe and instantly the scam orders stopped. I believe they only care about big name partners since the experience I had on an enterprise Bigcommerce account with them vs what we have on WooCommerce is night and day. Not exactly a service you want to hang your financial well being on. Like I said – 3 open tickets now and zero response. If you want to know the outcome of a dispute you have to make a special request and hope support even responds. The chargeback process literally just leaves you hanging with no information at all to go back to. Just tons of scam visa orders that braintree authorizes only to chargeback later. 3 open support tickets trying to get some help with fraud protection and willing to pay for the highest tier and nothing for a response – not even go away we don’t want your business. The fraud protection is a joke and support is an even bigger joke. Never seen a site get hit as hard with credit card scams ever and whats worse is how easy this gateway seems to make it. |
